Shaker Snowman

Hello Readers,

For today I am going to be playing along with The Paper Players and The Challenge. Both challenges were so inspiring that I thought I would throw my hat in the ring. Here is my card for today, enjoy!

Our bow stops and the sentiment takes over. A lovely snowy card.
Using black for the background seems to be a good choice
allowing the snowglobe to pop.

Left/Above: A detail shot of our little snowman and its shaker elements, some glittery snowflakes to add some sparkle and notice the silver buttons on our snowman. Too cute. Right/Below: This detail shows the shaker panel. The scene was colored using a combination of Mexpy alcohol markers and Prismacolor pencils. I also like how the sentiment completes candy cane ribbon line.

Witching Hour at MHK

Hello Readers,

Today I would like to show you how you can use your MHKDesigns digital stamps, photo-editing software, and traditional colored pencils to create a scenic card. But before we get to that here is my card for today, enjoy!

The sky was done digitally by using the gradation feature on my software
then I just plucked in some stars using my paint tool in various sizes.

MHKDesigns vintage images work so well with each other.
I invite you to check out her Etsy store and see for yourself
the versatility of stamp sets and variety of digital papers we have to offer

The witches, berry bush, and sky were all printed out I then added my own color
using colored pencils. It all came together to form a fantastic Halloween card.
The sentiment is actually black but all it took to change the text
was the color bucket feature on my software. Also notice it is not white but a light blue. It is meant to make the eye go to the moon then the sentiment.

So don't be afraid to electronically color backgrounds, images, and even sentiments then print it out. Afterwards, you can use traditional methods to enhance your design.

Iris Folding Maple Leaf

Hello Readers,

For today I am going to playing along with CAS(E) this Sketch. At first I saw this sketch I immediately thought of Iris Folding and since it is Fall a maple leaf would make for a perfect iris folding design. So without further ado, here is my card; enjoy!

Iris folding is an oldie but a goodie.
This sketch screamed iris folding to me. I used color to CASE the sketch.
The colors of autumn pop against the crisp
white background. The embellishment is simply a twine bow
with a sentiment tag.
Left/Above: A detail showing the sentiment tag. I really like the
acorn with the design connecting the season. Right/Below:
Showing a detail view of the iris folding technique.

When I was a little girl raking the leaves meant one thing; play! Jumping in and hearing the crisp leaves crunch beneath your boots was the best!! Until you become an adult...Yuk! Raking leaves now has become a chore. Something you do every Fall. And instead of crunching underneath your feet you are now crunching them into a bag for disposal. That is until I had children. They reintroduced me to the love of fallen leaves. The joy in their faces and the pure fun they have sends me back to my time with the leaves. Life's full circle moments are jarring at times but this time, it was pure bliss.

Well thank you so much for dropping by (pun intended).  I really enjoyed this project and I hope you did too. So until next time, take care, and happy stamping everyone!!

All the best,
Shawna

Subtle Angel

Hello Friends,
Today is one day closer to Christmas... Ahh!! I seem to be a last minute person, but this year I am bound and determined to stay on track. That includes Christmas cards! So here is my card for today, enjoy!

Soft muted colors is what this design is all about. The light falling snow reinforces
the soft feel of this card.

Embossing paste and the 'Falling Snow' stencil from Simon Says Stamp were all it took to get this fantastic texture. I thought the patterned paper base to be a perfect fit for our muted angel.
So pretty...
Sentiment strip grounding was used to anchor
the main focal image and sentiment. Partially fussy cutting around the angel and presents
then leaving a 'strip' allowed it to be only one layer.
Left/Above: Our serene angel is so pretty sitting among the presents. The color scheme seemed like a good fit for the Winter season.  Right/Below: The background paper I chose to have a shiny luster for the shimmer of snow and look closely the ribbon is colored using Wink of Stella glitter pen. Lots of subtle texture.

Today I am cold.... Am I complaining? Absolutely not!! The cool crisp air is so refreshing and a welcome change from the stifling Summer heat. So, making this card got me excited for snow; I know I will totally regret saying this in 5 months, but for now it leaves me with images of soft fluffy flakes drifting down to create a magical winter wonderland. Which of course all this magic will land all over the driveway and sidewalk so shoveling will have to happen. But let's keep my vision as pure as possible for now. Okay?

Well that should do it for me. I hope you have a great day and thank you so much for stopping by my little byte of the internet. I do hope you will join us at PINspirational. It should be fun! Until then take care and happy crafting.

All the best,
Shawna

Autumn Hugs

Hello Friends!

Make My Monday has a new challenge for the next two weeks. Here is my card for today, enjoy!!

No patterned paper here!! Just a stencil, cheap markers, and a water spritzer.
Harlequin stamp in the midground and pumpkin die cuts make for a festive and different card.

Challenge #31
NO patterned paper
_________________________
I really enjoy the use of black for this design.
And using a slice of a tree proved to make an excellent border.
Using both a stamp and die cut to create a unique sentiment.
And no your eyes aren't deceiving you, I did double stamp the word 'autumn' just to keep it interesting.

This card came out of thin air. I simply saw one of my new stencils laying around and thought I would experiment by tracing the stencil with markers. Then I would spritz some water on it to see what happens. Well I think it turned out well but what I like the most is the circular stamp encasing all the red dots. I found it to be a creative way to give the centers a bit of definition and that is where the black inspiration came from! The more I looked at this card the more I loved it... Now it is waiting for the perfect recipient.

Well that should do it for me. I hope you have a great day and thank you so much for stopping by my little byte of the internet. I do hope you will join us at Make My Monday. It should be fun! Until then take care and happy crafting.

All the best,
Shawna

Many Blessings

Hello Readers,

Today marks the first day of Autumn and a new challenge at MHKDesigns! Here is my card for today, enjoy!

This turkey digi is so realistic that I thought I didn't have a choice but
to color him in true color. I actually had to google 'turkey' to see its true colors. Funny how we 'think' we know what something looks like and come to realize you don' t have a clue.
