I didn't want something too frilly for my border so
I used this more contemporary punch.
Left/Below: The detail on the chair reminded me of wicker furniture- very delicate and swirly  Right/Bottom: The coordinating flower looks so well against the wallpaper and green color at the bottom of the card.

Bride in Flowers

Hello Everyone,

This post comes a bit late, but PINspirational has a new challenge up and running. The inspiration pin is all about weddings and togetherness. Before we get to the challenge I would like to share my card with you, enjoy.

This is an amazing image from Morgan's Artworld.
The background has a marble and watercolor texture which was created digitally.
Our bride was layered on top of the background and then colored using colored pencils.

I tried to keep embellishments simple and classic
as to not deter from the all its detail.
The card's color scheme was inspired by the challenge pin.
Subtle colors with stark black boundaries seemed to have worked nicely.
The black frame was die-cut then set on top of the image-
then mounted on black cardstock.
I am really pleased with the effect.
Challenges Entered:

Well, that should do it for me. I hope you have a great day and thank you so much for stopping by my little byte of the internet. I do hope you will join us at PINspirational. It should be fun! Until then take care and happy crafting.

All the best,
Shawna

Fireworks

Hello All,

Here to share with Y'all a new challenge at The Male Room. Considering the time of year, we are approaching in the U.S.A. it seems appropriate to have FirEWoRkS as our theme! Here is my card for today, enjoy!

I have been experimenting with metallics lately.
In this case, I dry embossed black CS then applied a silver wax finish with a cloth.
I am pleased with the results.

I wanted to leave some of the black CS exposed to create a kind of vintage feel.
A feeling of a worn piece of paper, like a ledger, someone would
use to enter their name as they immigrated to America.
The Statue of Liberty stamp is from Peddlers Pack.
This graphic image seemed perfect celebrating all things American.

A quote from The Simpsons that has always make laugh. It is from Apu, the Convenience store clerk: Celebrate the independence of your nation by blowing up a small part of it.

The fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. Watching fireworks with a grilled hamburger, coleslaw, and an ice cold beer surrounded by all the people you love is just the best! That was until 1995. That was the year my father passed away, on the fourth of July. I was in NYC with my mother ready to go out and find a good spot to watch their iconic fireworks. When I received a call from a friend asking to speak with my mother. She then came in and told me the news. My life changed that day on the fourth of July, 1995. That day was a happy day full of celebration that changed to a day of grief and sadness. But not all is lost. As the years go by the sadness was morphed into happy memories of him and all the times we had together. So now on the fourth, I am happy again thinking of our freedom as a nation, spending time with my husband and children, and yes, thinking of my dad.

Well, that should do it for me. I hope you enjoyed your stay but more importantly, I hope you join our challenge at The Male Room. Until then take care and happy stamping! Take care all and looking forward to seeing you at The Male Room!! Happy crafting!!

All the best,
Shawna

50th Anniversary

Hello Everyone,

For today I will be playing along with The Card Concept. Their challenge seemed intriguing so I thought I would try it out. Here is my card for today, enjoy!
I was inspired by The Card Concepts inspiration photo. Lots of bold elegance and beautiful colors.
I wanted to reflect that elegance, boldness, and colors in my design.

At any angle, this card will change how it looks due to the gold flex
in the numbers and pattern on the designer paper.  You can see from the examples above.

The detail on these numbers is so pretty. They were done using a laminator, foil, and paper that primed for foiling. The foil actually is the negative from a leftover piece of foil from numbers that were originally foiled.
I was awed at this technique on a video by Jennifer Mcguire.  It is worth the lengthy video.

The Card Concept: #75- Boldly Graphic

My Aunt and Uncle would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last week. Unfortunately, my Uncle lost his battle with Pancreatic Cancer five years ago. So sad to think of the 'what ifs' or 'could have been' for them. I do know this, they loved each other and had a successful marriage, two fantastic children, and one add-on child, me. I am grateful and humbled to know them together as a husband and wife.  I still visit my Aunt and we talk on the phone from time to time. I am happy and proud to call them family.

Well, that should do it for me!! Thank you so much for stopping by and do appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to spend time with me. We will see you soon. Take care and happy stamping.

All the best,
Shawna

Vibrant colors really allow this card to pop off the card.
The diagonal line dividing the card provides interest and a contempory look.

Nothing says you have to use the entire image.
So, when looking at an image, maybe try to crop down an area that interests you.
And concentrate on making it a center point of your design.

Don't forget your MHKDesigns digital papers!
Here I decided to use MHKDesigns 'Get Well Flowers' digital paper pack.
The neutral argyle pattern against the colorful flowers seems to fit with the design.
