City Girl

Hello Everyone,

You know the old saying 'when it rains it pours'? Well, that would describe me today posting three times. I guess I am making up for lost time. All that aside I would like to let you know that PINspirational is having a new challenge starting today! Here is my card for today, enjoy!

Our girl is happy even when it rains!
The background is my favorite with its looming clouds almost certain forecasting more showers.

I love the colors in this card and her coordinating outfit is just too cute.
Left/Below: The sentiment seemed like a good fit for the tone of the card. I highlighted the scripted letters for a bit more interest. Right/Bottom: Her jacket and boots were done using paper piecing. I think she turned out great and I really enjoy the cool color palette. .

Entering Challenges:
I used- showers and skyscrapers
I have owned the same key ring for 25 years. I love it because it has my first initial in brass; held together with leather and eyelets. Sure it is dinged or should I say well loved. When I got married the key ring represented not only my first initial but my last as well. AND.. when we moved to Michigan everyone thought I was a Spartan fan for Michigan State. I am ambivalent coming from Buffalo, New York. It could mean many things but for me, it represents freedom, independence, and responsibility. Oh, growing up was so much fun.
Well, that should do it for me. I hope you have a great day and thank you so much for stopping by my little byte of the internet. I do hope you will join us at PINspirational. It should be fun! Until then take care and happy crafting.

All the best,
Shawna

Peacock Plume Trio

Hello All,

Well, it has been awhile since I posted anything but DT cards. Well, some time has freed up and I am back at it!! For today I will be playing along with Freshly Made Sketches. I may be a bit rusty but here it goes, my card for today, enjoy!

This card draws on the direction of the feather.
Your eye makes the connection to the upper left corner of the card.
Also, the framed feather points to the upright feather which points to our directional feather.
Lots and lots of white space make these plumes pop!
A detail shot of the peacock feathers.
The framed plume was masked to allow the colored plumes seem to be behind the frame.
Challenges Entered:
Freshly Made Sketches: FMS298

So where have I been? For those of you who are curious, I have a small part-time job at Michaels (a nation wide craft store). I was hired as a cashier last November but then quickly became an instructor for Kids Club and Camp Creativity. This entails teaching kids between the ages of 3-10 how to be more creative. Teaching them colors, materials and how they work together to create a composition and lots more! Every camp day I would have a 'big' word for the day- like adhere, catapult, ombre, etc.  Camp Creativity has come to an end so now I am back to working just one day a week. My time with the kiddo has been very rewarding by seeing these kids grow in their creativity. A treasured experience that is for sure.

Well I am done for now. Thank you for stopping by and looking forward to reuniting with you in Blogland. Take care and happy stamping!

All the best,
Shawna

Celebrating Good News

Hello all,

Long time no post! If you want to know what I have been up to go to my other post 'Peacock Plume Trio'. This simple sketch really intrigued me to create a card full of celebration (I'll get to that later!). With that said, I am entering Creative with Stamps and CAS Colours & Sketches. Here is my card, enjoy!

The gray stripe was placed to anchor the sentiment. Banners were die-cut the same color as the background. I thought it added a bit of texture and interest.
Left/Below: The detailed shot of all the elements on the card.
Right/Bottom: The balloons were pressed into Distress Ink and then die-cut.
The sentiment was created the using the same technique.

CAS Colours & Sketches: Challenge #233
Creative with Stamps: Challenge #16- Celebrate

So, I told you I had good news. Well, one of my cards has been published in 'Craft Stamper magazine' July issue! Here is a pic of the cover. I was overwhelmed and humbled to be chosen as one of the artists for their 'Take It Make It Challenge'! Well that is my news!! Wahoo! For those of us in the U.S.A. we don't get this magazine so I will show you the card that was published

Well, that should do it for me!! Thank you so much for stopping by and do appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to spend time with me. We will see you soon. Take care and happy stamping.

All the best,

I love this digi from Elisabeth Bell Designs.
I usually don't like cute cards but this image got my heart!
Die cut sentiment from SSS and coordinating stamp seems to be a perfect fit for this little girl sending out her Christmas letters. Who knows maybe one special letter is for Santa. Precious!
Well, that should do it for me. I hope you have a great day and thank you so much for stopping by my little byte of the internet. I do hope you will join us at PINspirational. It should be fun! Until then take care and happy crafting.

Christmas in July

Hello All,

Summer is in full swing! So there is no better time than July to start thinking about Christmas. So here is my 'festive' card for today, enjoy!!

It is hard to believe that this card is using only one set. It is full of detail, charm, and the colors of Christmas.  The MHKDesigns Country Farm digi paper acts as a wash to the overlay crackled backdrop finish.

MHKDesigns vintage images work so well with each other.
I invite you to check out her Etsy store and see for yourself
the versatility of stamp sets and the variety of digital papers we have to offer
______________________________
This card is all wrapped in a pretty little bow!
I thought it was a nice touch for a whimsical card.
Another whimsical touch is the garland and gems draped on the card.
It adds a bit of sparkle and shine without being overbearing.
Perfect for Christmas.

The sentiment is colored with gray and silver colored pencil.
I like to use gray first because it allows the silver to shine more vibrantly.

I encourage you to stop by the MHKDesigns blog to see more inventive ideas from our design team, and then play along with our monthly challenge, or just enjoy a bit of eye candy.

There is a lot more to discover at MHKDesigns Etsy Shop! Stop on over and see what we have to offer. It is certain to spark the imagination. So, thank you for stopping by and hope to see you soon. Take care and happy crafting.
