Touch of Shabby

Hello all,

This is a little style and vocabulary lesson more for me than for all you veterans out there.  For you, it may be a refresher.

Shabby chic is defined as:

  1. Shabby chic (pronounced: "sheek") is a form of interior design where furniture and furnishings are either chosen for their appearance of age and signs of wear and tear or where new items are distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique.
  2. For me this style is quite a challenge.. That is why I wanted to try my hand at creating a Shabby Chic card. So, I am entering the Make My Monday Challenge and Sentimental Sunday challenges.
Entering Challenges:
Sentimental Sundays: Challenge #262 - Touch of Vintage
Make My Monday Challenge: Theme - Shabby Chic

The lace was given to me by my neighbor who just loves 'antiquing'. On one of her ventures she ran into this lovely lace then graciously gave it to me. I drooled and said many thanks.  Here is my card I hope you like it.

Antique lace is a beautiful focal point. I
purposely left the edge frayed for a more aged appearance.
Just love how the sponging shows through the damask pattern
of the stamped image.

The sentiment is understated to leave room
for all intricate the patterns of the lace and stamped image.
The background was actually produced by accident. And like penicillin many accidents end up being what some call 'happy accidents'. This one I think literally took my breath away. I was just messing around with paper and ink when I sponged teal and rose Distress Ink over a panel of kraft paper. Then stamped an image using the Penny Black damask background stamp with frosted white ink. Isn't this stamp divine? I certainly thought so after I stamped the image on paper!!

Holy moly I had to make a card out of this, somehow? So I punched the scalloped border on another piece of kraft paper and attached to the stamped panel. Added the entire design onto a gray-blue card base. Then added the gifted antique lace and some flowers and leaves that I found at Michaels. Finally stamped sentiment in teal and die cut and added it to the card.

This was so much fun to make... Now that I am all warmed up I might, just might, try another Shabby Chic creation soon.. Thank you for the inspiration MMM and Sentimental Sundays.

Take care and thank you so much for joining me. And if you would like please leave a comment good, great, or otherwise.

All the best,
Shawna
