Geek is Chic

Hello Everyone,

I have the pleasure to be a guest designer at Addicted to CAS. What a joy to work with such talent. Their theme this coming fortnight is 'style'! Without further ado here is my card today, enjoy!

A one layer card that says all that Bill Gates and Elan Musk wanted to hear in High School that geek is chic! The glasses with tape, the plaid shirt with suspenders all scream geek. I decided the geekish elements needed to be anchored amongst all the white space by stamping a ledger grid in Wild Hare by ColorBox.

Challenge #168
"Style"

There is a bit of unintended dimension to this card. The 'tape' between the glasses was a last-minute addition. I used a white paint pen to add the 'tape' which left behind some bumpy texture from the pen. In real life, it looks lifelike with all its beautiful geekish bumpiness.

I have said it once and I'll say it again; CAS is a very controlled thought out art form. Keeping it simple is not exactly an easy thing to achieve. This was one of the hardest challenges I have done to date. I went through at least eight to ten ideas on what to do and then eight to ten drafts on what it was going to look like. I asked my kids, husband, and friends what style meant to them. They all had different ideas, thanks but well.... no thanks.

To me, I wanted 'style' to look like smart, confident, or happy. What did that mean? Well, it was a journey but I finally go there with this design.

Thank you so much for stopping by and do appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to spend time with me. Also, I want to thank my hosts, Addicted to CAS for this gracious honor! Thank you all and I hope you all have a fantastic day and lots of good crafting vibes headed your way.

  2. This is such a great card, Shawna! I love your choice of elements and how you grouped them to allow for maximum white space on your design! Adding 'tape' between the lenses on your glasses was such a brilliant idea, too...Love it!

Thank you again for being our Guest Designer for this challenge...It's evident that you put a lot of thought (and work) into your final design, and it has paid off beautifully! It was really nice getting to know you, too...I wish you well!

  3. This is a wonderful card, and I so enjoyed reading your post too. I love the size of the glasses as compared with the shirt/suspenders. I just LOVE the tape on the bridge. Your placement of the sentiment is perfect. Thank you so much for designing with us and putting so much into your creation!

  4. Hi Shawna. I could swear I left a comment here for you to tell you how much I love this card, and how glad I am that you are our Guest Designer for this challenge. I love the size of the glasses complete with tape, with the size of the shirt/suspender square. The placement of the sentiment is perfect. A wonderful take on our code word. It's a joy to have you designing with us at Addicted To CAS.

  5. Great minds, Shauna, although in a different 'frame' of mind. ;) I love your geeky glasses and I think that frame minus the tape is back in style again.

  6. Shawna, as a computer engineer I can so relate to this! I love all the little elements - including the glasses with tapes.... all we need is a pocket protector and we will be so back in the 70s/80s! Absolutely fabulous CAS card. So glad you were our guest designer this week
