Funky Flowers

Hello, and welcome back to TheGrandStampede!

It is that time again at MHK Designs. Our new April release is out and I am here to share the new 'Funky Flowers' digi stamp set.   Here is my card for today, enjoy!

Isn't this the most awesome set? The whimsy of the flowers is so magical and mysterious.
The leaves are black to keep it as simple as possible. The color on the flowers were all done using colored pencils.
By far my favorite are the distressed edges fading into the card. Again, I feel it adds to its magic and mystery.

Upon looking more closely at this card I noticed the gray 'wonderful' was not going to cut it.
The focal point of the sentiment needed color. So out with my pencils, carefully, so carefully not to escape the lines. I wanted to work on an ombre scheme to match these funky flowers.

H2Ocolor on Black

Hello Readers,

For today I am going to be playing along with CAS(E) this Sketch and Addicted to CAS. Here is my watercolor card for today, enjoy.

Yes, you heard (or read) that correctly.
This panel is made up of only black cardstock, tube of watercolors,

what I really love about this card are the colors are not fully blended. It is very streaky and graphic.
I would have never thought watercolor could be so beautiful on black paper.

The mixture and texture of colors are remarkable.
The sentiment says it all, it took courage to get this card started.

I know I said it in the captions but seriously I never thought this was possible until I saw a YouTube video that surfaced in my feed about a year and a half ago. I saw this artist applying watercolor on black paper. I thought there wasn't a chance this would work so I put it in my mental storage box. Then I saw rainbow themed challenges and wanted to do something different with the trusty rainbow. I pulled out my mental storage box and remembered this technique. So, gave it a try. I gave a tentative brush stroke, and my mind was officially blown. In my personal, and humble, opinion the result is magnificent.

This is my favorite image from the set. Why?
Since when do we READ newspapers?
My dad wasn't a big paper reader but I know plenty of fathers that were.
I can't remember their faces because it was always vailed behind..... well....
a newspaper!

I also used MHKDesigns patterned paper to 'color' in the black part of the image and sentiment.
The thought process is the same with digital crafting as a die cut machine. Cut out the word and discard the positive area of the word. This leaves you with a negative 'word' hole in your paper. Put a piece of patterned paper behind it and the word is now filled in. Same goes with digital crafting. Take out the black areas and behind it will reveal the pattern behind.
Clear as mud? good!
Should I do a video tutorial?

I think cropping out the man's faces allows your imagination to see who you want
to see. In my case, it is my best friends father... Too funny the memories you recall.

Birdcage in Flowers

Hello Friends,

For today I have an inspiration card using your MHKDesigns digital stamps and papers. MHKDesigns makes it easy to create fantastic, elegant cards. Case in point, here is my card for today, enjoy!

You will see me use the 'Birdcage Silhouettes' many times throughout
my posts. This set is so pretty and versatile.

The flowers were outlined using an art sharpie pen and then
filled in using alcohol markers.

I hope this picture does the card justice by showing the outer border of the card.
You will see a pattern foiled in silver. This was done using a premade pattern (by others) and some foil paper pulled it through a heat machine and done! Keep an eye out, because I think I am going to use the negative image for another card.

The black polka-dotted ribbon lets that birdcage standout.
Plus, I think it frames the design in nicely.
