Here to share with Y'all a new challenge at The Male Room. Considering the time of year, we are approaching in the U.S.A. it seems appropriate to have FirEWoRkS as our theme! Here is my card for today, enjoy!
I have been experimenting with metallics lately. In this case, I dry embossed black CS then applied a silver wax finish with a cloth. I am pleased with the results. |

I wanted to leave some of the black CS exposed to create a kind of vintage feel. A feeling of a worn piece of paper, like a ledger, someone would use to enter their name as they immigrated to America. |
The Statue of Liberty stamp is from Peddlers Pack. This graphic image seemed perfect celebrating all things American. |
A quote from The Simpsons that has always make laugh. It is from Apu, the Convenience store clerk: Celebrate the independence of your nation by blowing up a small part of it.
Challenges Entered:
Markerpop!: Challenge #123- Summer Fun
Crafty Cardmakers: Challenge #191- Here Comes Summer
Cupcake Inspiration Challenge: #412- Fireworks
The fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. Watching fireworks with a grilled hamburger, coleslaw, and an ice cold beer surrounded by all the people you love is just the best! That was until 1995. That was the year my father passed away, on the fourth of July. I was in NYC with my mother ready to go out and find a good spot to watch their iconic fireworks. When I received a call from a friend asking to speak with my mother. She then came in and told me the news. My life changed that day on the fourth of July, 1995. That day was a happy day full of celebration that changed to a day of grief and sadness. But not all is lost. As the years go by the sadness was morphed into happy memories of him and all the times we had together. So now on the fourth, I am happy again thinking of our freedom as a nation, spending time with my husband and children, and yes, thinking of my dad.
Well, that should do it for me. I hope you enjoyed your stay but more importantly, I hope you join our challenge at The Male Room. Until then take care and happy stamping! Take care all and looking forward to seeing you at The Male Room!! Happy crafting!!

Very dramatic with all the dark and shimmery silver. Love that pop of colour for the fireworks behind the statue.
Sending hugs, I can see that the 4th is obviously a day full of mixed feelings for you. I hope all your family has a great one this year. I love this card - the vintage feel, all that lovely texture and the wonderful image - great take on the challenge. xxx
It's a great card, Shawna.
I think this card is inspired, I love the fact you thought of the immigration papers and the Statue with the fireworks, a FABULOUS card.
Isn't it strange how celebrations can be changed with the passing of a dear one, my dad passed 23rd December, so I know how you feel, it's a mixed feeling day. God Bless.
